Champions League Quarter finals

Champions League Quarter finals

This week has seen the first leg of the Champions League Quarter Finals take place and three out of the four ties remain up for grabs. The PSV Liverpool tie seems to be over as the five times champions cruised to a 3-0 away victory in the Phillips Stadium with Steven Gerrard, John Arne Riise and the seemingly prolific Peter Crouch on the score sheet.

In the other game on Tuesday, Bayern Munich will be delighted with centre half Daniel Van Buyten after he scored two crucial away goals at the San Siro making the German side favourites to progress to the semi-finals. Although the second of the Belgian’s two goals was scored in second half stoppage time, his team will still feel hard done by, after Milan had gone 2-1 ahead five minutes earlier due to a penalty that should never have been given.

Wednesday’s action wasn’t so good for the English sides as Manchester United were beaten 2-1 by Roma in Rome, whilst Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw with Spanish outfit Valencia. Although United lost and had Paul Scholes sent off, they are certainly favourites to progress thanks to an away goal by Wayne Rooney, brilliantly made by the consistently superb Cristiano Ronaldo. Chelsea won’t be as confident to progress as they must score in the Mestalla against an impressive Valencia.

My tips for the semi final are Valencia v Liverpool and Manchester United v Bayern Munich.
